I'm New
Whoever You Are, You Are Welcome At St. Margaret's!
When you visit St. Margaret's, you will be warmly welcomed as soon as you enter the doors. Our goal is to make everyone feel at home. Our services follow an established pattern of prayers, Scripture readings, responses and singing, which we call our "liturgy." We always serve Communion—which means we share bread and wine, as Christ taught us to do to remember his love for us. Everyone is welcome to receive Communion.
The Act of Worship
Ushers will greet you and provide you with a service bulletin so that you may participate fully. Services include beautiful music led by our choir and soloists, several readings from Scripture, a sermon, prayers, and communion. The service bulletin will let you know when it is appropriate to respond during the service as well as when to sit, stand, and kneel if that is your practice. You will notice that people may also bow or make the sign of the cross. Our members come from a variety of Christian denominations, or none, so we provide the freedom for you to participate as much, or little, as you are comfortable. You will find the services of the Episcopal Church beautiful in their ordered dignity, God-centered, and yet mindful of the nature and needs of human beings.
Before and After Services
Before the service you may notice that some worshippers kneel in their pew for a prayer of personal preparation for worship. In many churches it is also the custom to bow to the altar on entering and leaving the church as an act of reverence for Christ. We prefer to use the time before the service begins for personal meditation and devotions. At the end of the service some persons kneel for a private prayer before leaving. Others sometimes sit to listen to the organ postlude.
You Will Not Be Embarrassed
When you visit St. Margaret's you are our welcomed guest. You will not be singled out in an embarrassing way, nor asked to stand before the congregation nor to come forward. Should you wish to know more about St. Margaret's, the Episcopal Church in general, or how one becomes an Episcopalian, the clergy will gladly answer your questions and suggest various way to become a member. You will be invited to fill out a Welcome Card and place in the offering plate so that we can be in touch with you the following week.
