CHORAL EVENSONG | Sunday, November 23 | 5 pm
The St. Margaret’s Choir concludes the season of ordinary time with Choral Evensong. This ancient service of psalms, readings, hymns, canticles, and anthems is one of the most beloved in the Episcopal tradition.
Choral Evensong will feature the music of Irish composer Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924). Stanford was a renowned composer, conductor, and teacher. As a professor at the Royal College of Music (London), his students included Gustav Holst, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and John Ireland. His compositions include masterworks in almost every sacred and secular genre, although he is probably most admired today for his choral music. The St. Margaret’s Choir will present Stanford’s Magnificat and Nunc Dimitis in G and his renowned Beati Quorum Via.
