Introducing Fr. Hensley
Fr. Hensley is currently the rector of The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration in Palos Park, Illinois which is a suburb of Chicago. He has served there since 2003. He is a graduate of Duke University (Bachelor of Arts in Religion) and Seabury-Western Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity).
Prior to his call to the priesthood Fr. Hensley worked with the Bureau of National Affairs Inc in Washington D.C. where he was Manager of Data Communications and Network systems. He did the same kind of work with Trans Union Corporation in Chicago. Upon completion of his seminary work he served as curate at Christ Church in Winnetka, IL.
During his time at Transfiguration Fr. Hensley worked to restore the missional relationship between the parish and the preschool and its day care center. They established a long-term strategic plan for the school and strengthened the leadership of its board. Improving transparency and oversight in both parish and school finances has been an important goal of that ministry. His community ministry includes serving as a police chaplain. The church has also developed modes of worship to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse and multi-cultural community. Fr. Hensley has also sponsored ecumenical events with Lutheran and Roman Catholic congregations.
Active in the Diocese of Chicago Fr. Hensley was on the Bishop's search committee when it elected its last bishop. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of Seabury Western Seminary and is the former President of the Alumni Association.
He and his wife Becky have twins, Bob and Nell, aged 12, who are musicians and who love the arts. Lane’s personal interests include scuba diving, bicycling, golf, cooking, astronomy and physics. He is also something of computer techie. When not wearing a clerical collar and certainly during the month of March madness he’ll probably be sporting a baseball cap with the words "Duke University" on it.
We look forward to welcoming Fr. Hensley starting on Sunday July 18th.
