A Festival of Lessons and Carols
December 11, 2011 at 7:00 pm

The St. Margaret's Adult Choir will be joined by readers, organ, flute, oboe, violin and harp for this special presentation of wonderful music for the Christmas season. This service is an annual highlight of the musical season at St. Margaret's and an early arrival is suggested for seating as the church is always full.

Invite your friends now to come hear the glorious music of Christmas at St. Margaret's.

In concert: Frederick Swann, Organist

Frederick Swann is in his eleventh season as Organ Artist - in - Residence at St. Margaret's.

For 25 years he was Organist and Director of Music at the famed Riverside Church in New York City, and in a similar position at the Crystal Cathedral in California for 16 years before becoming Artist-in-Residence at The First Congregational Church of Los Angeles, which houses the largest church organ in the world. In addition to his work at St. Margaret's he recently served six years as National President of the American Guild of Organists (20,000 members with Chapters in every state plus several foreign countries).

He is currently Artist Teacher of Organ and University Organist at the University of Redlands, and Organist Emeritus of the Crystal Cathedral and the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles. He has performed nearly 3,000 recitals in all of the United States and 7 foreign countries, retiring from this activity in the fall of 2011.

Back By Popular Demand!! This popular male chorus took our series by storm last season so here they are again with their incredible sound and exuberant choreography! Members of this international championship chorus come from all walks of life for one purpose … to sing at a very high skill level and enjoy the company of young musicians who share this goal.

The Desert Friends of Music are delighted to welcome back our neighbors from nearby Westminster, California for this very special evening of song.

In concert: Nathan Laube, Organist
Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 7:00 pm

At the age of twenty-three, a star among young classical musicians, concert organist Nathan Laube has quickly earned a place amongst the organ world's elite performers. His brilliant playing, creative programming, and gracious demeanor have thrilled audiences and presenters across the United States and in Europe, and have earned high praise from critics and peers alike. He has become known for his colorful and virtuoso transcriptions of orchestral works by Liszt, Mendelssohn, Mahler, Rossini, and Strauss.

Along with his extensive concert touring, he is currently beginning a graduate degree program in Stuttgart, Germany and will also hold the position of Artist in Residence at The American Cathedral in Paris.

In concert: The Canterbury Cathedral Choir
April 16, 2012 at 7:00 pm

The Canterbury Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys is from the Mother Church of the Anglican Communion and the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury; this incredible choir will bring a concert featuring music from the 13th century to newly-composed works.

The choir consists of 12 lay clerks, men who are professional singers but also work locally, and the 20-strong choristers, boys of 9-13 who attend St. Edmund's School in Canterbury.

The Choristers of Canterbury Cathedral sing services six days a week at the Cathedral services, making a vital contribution to the tradition which has continued for over 1400 years.

As the final concert of this season, come enjoy music in the Anglican tradition at its best.

THE CORNELL UNIVERSITY MEN’S GLEE CLUB
Throw out all stereotypes. This premier collegiate ensemble for male voices, with a diverse repertoire of classical, folk, and traditional Cornell University songs, has performed world-wide and has brought music to millions of people as part of their national and international tours.

A free performance of solo, duo, and ensemble selections from the standard Broadway repertoire, sung by members of the St. Margaret's Choir.

THE WESTMINSTER CHORUS
The 2009 Choir of the World Pavarotti Trophy winner and the 2007 International Chorus Gold Medalist of the Barbershop Harmony Society. This group of forty young men will completely blow you away with an incredible sound and exuberant choreography. In a performance of the St. John Passion of J. S. Bach, with singers and orchestra. On the Monday in Holy Week, you will want to include the Bach St. John Passion as part of your Lenten experience.

In past seasons, the DFOM has featured such outstanding choral performers as CHANTICLEER, (four times) including the Chanticleer Christmas CONCERT (twice), The American Boychoir, The Nordic Choir, The Vienna Choir Boys, The Grace Cathedral Choir of Men and Boys from San Francisco, The Texas Boys Choir, The Westminster Choir, and Ensemble Amarcord, organists Frederick Swann, John Obetz, Todd Wilson, Robert MacDonald, Richard Elliott, James O'Donnell, John Scott, and John Wright. Canadian Brass has made two appearances here. Other concerts have included The West Coast Opera Theatre, The Idyllwild Arts Academy Orchestra, The Side Street Strutters Jazz Band (from Disneyland), silent movies with organ accompaniment, and more.
