Welcome to kid's word
Kid's Word is for young and old alike
The Rector, Vestry, and Staff of St. Margaret's are pleased to offer Kid's Word every Sunday of the school year.
Offered during the 10:30 service.
What is Kid's Word?
Kid's Word is a Liturgy of the Word designed to encourage kids to encounter their natural desire to worship God, and to assist them in developing the language of worship and prayer--reader and non-reader alike. To worship and pray is always the work of God's people. The language of worship and prayer is best learned through experience, just like any language.
In a Kid's word worship service, kids participate in the Book of Common Prayer's Liturgy of the Word Rite II. Everything is designed to encourage kids to understand the rituals within an Episcopal Service. Questions are encouraged! It is designed to provide as similar an experience as possible to the large church service going on in the sanctuary. We aim to continue to prepare a delightful environment where the proclamation of God's enduring love for us can be cultivated, and where Godly imaginations can bloom.
The program hopes to encourage the children to grow in their knowledge and love in the service and as they become older elementary school and middle school students, to become involved in our acolytes program.
Parents are always welcome to stay with their children in Kid's Word.
What will we do in Kid's Word?
Kid's Word follows Rite II. Children are brought down into the chapel, sign in and receive their own bulletin. These bulletins are specially created each week to help the children know and understand what is happening in the service. Announcements are meant to target their interests and the back features some crafts and games for the kids to look at after service or during the week. We hear the same Holy Scriptures as are read in the Sunday Service of Holy Communion, in child friendly translations. We sing and prayer, encouraging children to voice their thanksgivings and concerns.
During the Offertory we will join the congregation in the sanctuary for the Great Thanksgiving Prayer and Holy Communion. Each week the kids will carry an offering in procession. An offering from home is encouraged (a flower, a quarter, a dollar, five dollars...) and we would love to help you facilitate a conversation at home about how they earn their offering and why it is important to give something back to God.
Kid's Word Bulletin available online
The Kid's Word Bulletin is now available online. Each week the bulletin contains the prayers, readings, and music used in Kid's Word. In addition, information is shared about Youth and Family Events at St. Margaret's. Each week the bulletin features a puzzle to both entertain and inform our kids. What about Sunday School?
We know "book learning" about the Christian faith is important, too, for all of us, young and old alike. We have a Children's Program on Wednesday afternoons that is similar to a Sunday School but is during the week. Sundays in between services we offer children's education classes, "Crafting with Christ" and "Acting out the Gospels. On Wednesday nights we offer Episcopal education class for kids called "My Episcopal Faith." Please check those classes out under Christian Education.
