Our Vocation as Stewards

Stewardship is all that we do after we say "Yes" to Christ

Contribute online starting today

Surveys indicate an overwhelming majority of Americans prefer to do their banking over the internet. We have received numerous requests for a way to make contributions online.

In response to your requests, we began looking for a way to accept your contributions in a way that was convenient and secure. We also wanted a method that did not increase costs to St. Margaret’s, and one that could be used by our seasonal members. Based on our research and discussions with a representative from the national Episcopal Church we have established a relationship with ParishPay, a nationwide organization that provides online contributions for several thousand churches across the country.

Members of St. Margaret’s staff have been testing the system with their own contributions and have found the system is easy to use and provides excellent reporting. In addition, when you make a contribution through ParishPay you are given an option to print out slip to place in the collection plate on Sunday.

Beginning next week St. Margaret’s will begin accepting online contributions through ParishPay, with a link from our website. More information will be provided in the coming weeks.

If you would like to help us test the system, or have questions about ParishPay, please contact Darlene Fletcher at 760-346-2697 Ext 125

Frequently Asked Questions about Donating an Automobile

Is my donation tax deductible?
All auto donations donated to charitable organizations granted tax exemption under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code are tax deductible. St. Margaret's has been designated as an exempt charity subject to the provisions of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Will my vehicle donation provide me with a tax benefit?
If currently you are not itemizing your deductions on your State and Federal tax returns, your accountant will be able to tell you if making a car donation would justify switching to itemizing your yearly deductions and using the longer form.

What proof do I need for my deduction?
You will need a Letter of Receipt from the Stewardship Office of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church verifying the date, the year, make and model of your vehicle donation.

How is the value determined?
The IRS requires that the donor use the "fair market value" as a tax deduction. The Kelly Blue Book, the NADA Guides and Intellichoice may be used as helpful references in determining the Fair Market Value of your vehicle. Other valuation services and information bureaus may also be of assistance.

We suggest you review IRS Publication 526 which sets forth the manner in which the IRS requires you to determine the value of your donated property. You may search IRS Publication 526 online:  IRS Publications.

If you estimate the value of your vehicle at over $5,000, an appraisal is not only advisable, but required by a certified, third-party, impartial appraiser which cannot be provided or paid for by St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in order to be valid.

What do I need to donate my vehicle?
You will need to provide the complete Title to the car with all appropriate signatures from all owners, should their be more than one listed on Title.

My car hasn't run in years. Can I still donate it?

Maybe. There are exceptions, including older vehicles whose value would not offset the cost of towing. To find out if we can accept your vehicle, please contact Chet Hecht at (760) 346-2697 ext. 102
