Free will offering
The
beautiful evening service of Choral Evensong will be sung by the
Chamber Singers of St. Margaret’s Church with Frederick Swann,
organist, and John Wright, director.
Music for the service will include the Evening Canticles in A by
Herbert Sumison and the beautiful
Evening Hymn by H. Balfour Gardiner. Following the service the
Singers will be joined by a chamber orchestra for a performance
of the Magnificat by Pergolesi.

Hailed by the New Yorker magazine as “America’s favorite choral ensemble” and praised by the Los Angeles Times for its “luxurious perfection,” this GRAMMY Award winning vocal ensemble brings its remarkable and beloved concert again to St. Margaret’s for an evening of incredible and exquisite Christmas choral music.
With its seamless blend of twelve male voices, ranging from countertenor to bass, Chanticleer has earned international renown as “an orchestra of voices.”

Now
in its 36th year and returning to St. Margaret’s by popular
demand, the Canadian Brass is known for its blend of classical
virtuosity with high-spirited entertainment. The group has
delighted audiences all across North America, Europe, Japan,
Australia, the Middle East and the former Soviet Union.
It was the first chamber ensemble to tour the People’s Republic of China. The Brass has appeared as featured guest artists with every leading American orchestra and performs regularly each summer at major festivals, including Tanglewood, Mostly Mozart, Ravinia and the Music Academy of the West.

in his seventh season as Organ Artist-in-Residence at St.
Margaret’s Church, this internationally acclaimed organist will
thrill you with dazzling technique and artistry. The “dean” of
American organists, Mr. Swann is in his third term as National
President of the American Guild of Organists and continues to
give recitals in the United States and abroad, including recent
programs in Russia, England and Australia. In addition to his
virtuosity you will also enjoy his witty commentaries.
“Splendid, probing, brilliant and entertaining…As always, Swann
is an inspiration.” Los Angeles Times.
In this program Mr. Swann will be joined by the Redlands Symphony Orchestra String Section in a performance of the Poulenc Organ Concerto, and by Kathie Freeman, narrator, in George Akerley’s “A Sweet for Mother Goose.”

Organist
and Director of Music at St. Thomas Church in New York City
since 2004, Mr. Scott is one of the world’s leading organists
and choir masters. After his initial training as a Cathedral
chorister in Wakefield, Yorkshire, England, Mr. Scott immersed
himself in organ and choral music, becoming Organ Scholar of St.
John’s College, Cambridge. While still a student, he made his
Royal Albert Hall debut as the youngest organ soloist to appear
in the Proms. Subsequently, Mr. Scott served for 14 years
as the Director of Music at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.
Before embarking for his new post in New York City, he was awarded the title Lieutenant of the Royal Order (LVO), a personal honor from Queen Elizabeth II.
