THE MARK MASSEY JAZZ QUINTET with DOROTHY COLLINS, Singer - opens the fifth season of The Desert Friends of Music at St. Margaret's concert series.  Featured on the concert will be singer Dorothy Collins singing everything from jazz and blues to spiritual and gospel favorites.  Creating jazz together for over seven years at popular venues in southern California, they appear regularly at Spaghetini's in Seal Beach and Kikuya in Huntington Beach.  Dedication to true jazz has helped them cultivate fans among jazz lovers and novices alike.  This concert will feature great jazz standards along with a segment featuring jazz hymns from their latest CD recording.  There is something in this concert for everyone.  You won't be disappointed!  Reception following.  Tickets available at the door.

CHANTICLEER - the GRAMMY® award-wining vocal ensemble praised by the New York Times for its "precise, pure, and deeply felt singing" and by the Los Angeles Times for its "luxurious perfection" will bring its unique blend of choral music to St. Margaret's for a one-night-only performance.  Chanticleer has developed a remarkable reputation for its vivid interpretations of vocal literature, from Renaissance to Jazz, and from Gospel to Venturesome contemporary music.  With its seamless blend of twelve, male voices, ranging from countertenor to bass, the ensemble has earned international renown as "an orchestra of voices."

MOVIE NIGHT - Back by Popular Demand.... Formerly a staff organist at New York's Radio City Music Hall, Bob MacDonald will again play the mighty "Quimby" pipe organ at St. Margaret's and entertain through two Laurel and Hardy movies and a great audience sing along. You won't want to miss this one! Invite a youngster to attend with you to see what the movies used to be like! Popcorn on the patio included. Robert MacDonald is currently organist-choir director at First Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth , Texas . He has degrees in organ performance from Boston University and the New England Conservatory of Music. He has also served as Associate Organist-Choir Director of The Riverside Church in New York City and later became Director of Music and Organist at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Newark, New Jersey.

organ at St. Margaret's services:

9/12, 9/26, 10/10, 10/31, 11/07,
11/14 (St. Margaret's Day),
12/5, 1/9, 2/13, 3/20, 3/27,
4/17, 5/8, 6/5.  In addition to
these Sunday morning services,
he will also play on the Lessons
& Carols Service at 7 pm on
12/12 and play an organ concert
on Sunday, 2/20 at 4 pm. 

All services are Sunday 10 am
unless otherwise noted.

FREDERICK SWANN, Organist - Now in his fourth season as Organ Artist-in-Residence at St. Margaret's Church, this internationally acclaimed organist will thrill you with dazzling technique and artistry. Always a hit with the audiences, Frederick Swann plays music you want to hear!
He is currently serving a second term as the national president of the 20,000-member American Guild of Organists organization and was the program chair for the 2004 AGO convention in Los Angeles . He is organist emeritus of the famed Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove , where he served as director of music/organist for sixteen years. He was subsequently organist-in-residence at the First Congregational Church in Los Angeles , now organist emeritus. He was also the music director/organist at The Riverside Church in New York City and chairman of the organ department at the Manhattan School of Music. Although he retired from active church work in 2001 after 60 years on the bench, he continues to be a sought after concert performer throughout the United States and abroad. Mr. Swann's long career has included engagements in all 50 of the United States, in major churches, concert halls, and cathedrals throughout North America, Europe and Asia.  He has performed with prestigious orchestras and collaborated with renowned choral organizations.

A FESTIVAL OF LESSONS AND CAROLS FOR CHRISTMAS - Featuring the choir and orchestra of St. Margaret's Church, this service will include a wide variety of music for the Christmas season. Always a popular event, early arrival is suggested for this free event.

THE SIDE STREET STRUTTERS JAZZ BAND - The traditional Mardi Gras weekend at St. Margaret's will again feature the incredible jazz sounds of this fine group. "The Side Street Strutters play regularly at Disneyland , but there is nothing Mickey Mouse about them. These guys are Good!"
- The Long Beach Gazette.  Beginning with the rich musical heritage of Old New Orleans , the band also pays tribute to the great Big Bands of the 1930's and 1940's.
