BOY SCOUT TROOP 131
BOY SCOUT TROOP 131 HELPS OUT THIS SUMMER BY CONSTRUCTING
AND PAINTING A FENCE AT ST MARGARET'S SCHOOL.
summer days can be boring for kids if they are too young to get a real job, but too old for day camps. There are only so many Vacation Bible Schools you can work at to tie up your time. But if you are in scouts, there is a world of opportunities for the summer. Most scout camps are held in the summer, and there are always hiking and back-packing trips or achievements to Work On. The highest achievement in scouting is the Eagle Snout Rank. To accomplish this, you must advance through six ranks, earn 21 specific merit badges and complete a major service project that benefits a school, religions institute or the community
Thomas Johnson chose to build a fence for St. Margaret's School for his Eagle service project. 'We had a fence in your hack yard that matched the school fence. I knew they wanted to fence in the side yards because I can remember when I was in school at St., Margaret's. Sometimes the balls from the playground would roll down the side yards and into the parking lot. The fence will make sure no balls or kids.' end up somewhere they shouldn't."
''To complete service project, Thomas had to obtain a series of permit, work with contractors, and involve the boys from his troop "We had to hire a contractor to take down the fence in our backyard, weld it, and supervise our work. My troop helped by carrying sections of the fence, digging the fence p t holes, pouring concrete, and painting
So next time your at the school, take a look at the new side fences. Isn't it wonderful to have scouting a part of our church? St Margaret's Church is the sponsor of Troop 131 Boy Scout Troop and Pack 131 Cub Scout. These groups are made up of boys f all over the Coachella Valley
