Organist/ Choirmaster
1963 to Present
From the earliest times, church music has been part of the ceremony. It varies depending upon culture and times. Some of the earliest music were chants made into an art form under Pope Gregory. Music has many properties, in that it must have aesthetic pleasure, suite the ceremonial process, and at the same time praise or give thanks to God.
St. Margaret's has had music from the very beginning in 1963. St. Margaret's held its first services in a restaurant on the highway (now Non-Restaurant). Frances Smith, our first organist took her autoharp as a substitute for the organ. She sat on a stool at the counter to play. The chords on the autoharp are limited, so she went through the hymnal to pick out suitable hymns. She usually had to transpose them to the autoharp.
