Webmaster's Note: Bishop Mathes has given permission to print his notes to the clergy of his diocese. The Bishop writes regularly to his clergy in order to inform, to teach, to share his joys and sorrows, and to encourage the clergy to likewise share with him. We are grateful to Bishop Mathes for allowing us to share these notes with you.
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
The 33rd Convention of the Diocese of San Diego is now upon us and I look
forward to being with you over the next two days. Our convention will be quickly
followed by the Primates Meeting in Tanzania and then in March by our Episcopal
House of Bishops. These three events will bear in various ways on our future
mission and ministries. In order to be in conversation with you and the people
of the diocese on these matters, I will be planning a series of five town
meetings much like those held before and after the General Convention.
After our convention, our website will provide all resolutions passed, my
address and sermon, and a report on elections. I would encourage you to direct
people to this site. In addition, we will provide a bulletin insert for next
weekend which will provide a brief convention report.
Thank you in advance for your work as we take counsel for the renewal and
mission of the church.
Faithfully,
The Rt. Rev. James R. Mathes
Bishop
